Carta CRM vs Affinity vs DealCloud: what is actually different?
Carta CRM differs from Affinity and DealCloud in two ways: where it lives and how it is priced. It sits inside Carta's ERP for private capital, so LP records can show TVPI, DPI, IRR, and carry from the fund administration a firm already runs on Carta. And Carta prices it by assets under management, with unlimited users and AI included, where Affinity publishes per-user prices and Intapp quotes DealCloud through sales. Affinity's center of gravity is relationship intelligence across the firm's network. DealCloud's is a platform Intapp configures to each firm's process, across private capital, investment banking, and other professional practices.
So the first question is not features. If your fund administration runs on Carta, Carta CRM offers the one thing the other two cannot copy. If it does not, the choice is closer and comes down to what you value most: warm paths and relationship scoring (Affinity), configured process and governance (DealCloud), or a price that does not grow with headcount (Carta).
We make Ahoy, a general AI-native CRM, and none of these three is our product. We build the revenue CRM that operating and portfolio companies sell from, which is why we track this market. Every claim below links to the vendor's own page, and all three vendors were checked on October 30, 2026.
What is Carta CRM?
Carta announced its acquisition of ListAlpha on March 3, 2026, pitching the result at mid-to-large cap private capital firms. ListAlpha's founder, Ihar Valodzin, now leads Carta CRM. The launch release promises capture across Outlook and Google Workspace, an AI agent built on an MCP server architecture, and Investment Committee one-pagers drafted from the firm's deal history. The CRM comes as two products, and they are bought differently, so it helps to keep them apart.
Deal CRM is what Carta calls "the deal-winning CRM for private capital." It syncs email and calendar automatically, maps relationships, runs customizable pipelines in a spreadsheet-style workspace, and adds AI company research and a context-aware AI agent. Carta's launch notes add LLM and API enrichment with a business summary, competitive analysis, and a proximity score, the option to connect a third-party agent, a native iOS app, and SOC 2 Type II. Carta describes it as purpose-built for private equity, says onboarding typically takes under three weeks, and sells it on its own.
LP CRM is "the smart CRM for investor relations." It runs a fundraising pipeline by stage, connects to Microsoft Exchange and Gmail natively, auto-enriches allocator profiles, and shows TVPI, DPI, IRR, carry, commitments, and capital calls on LP records, because the fund data is already in Carta. Carta's FAQ says LP CRM is available as part of a Fund Administration package.
Pricing is not published. In a September 15, 2026 post, Valodzin writes that Carta CRM is priced by AUM, not headcount, with unlimited users and AI included. That is the sharpest contrast with Affinity, whose list price is per user.

From each vendor's own pages, checked October 30, 2026: Carta Deal CRM, Carta LP CRM, Affinity pricing, and Intapp DealCloud. Prices are list prices before any negotiated discount, and vendors change them, so confirm before you budget.
Which one fits your firm?
Your fund administration runs on Carta. Start with Carta CRM. LP records that already know each investor's commitments and returns save the reconciliation work every other CRM leaves to IR, and Deal CRM keeps the pipeline in the same system. The case weakens quickly if fund administration lives elsewhere, since LP CRM is sold with Carta's Fund Administration package.
You source through relationships and want a price before the first call. Affinity. Relationship scoring and the warmest path to a target are what the product is organized around, and it is the only one of the three with a public price list. A 10-person deal team on the Scale plan lists at $23,000 a year before discounts.
Your firm runs on configured process, or does more than invest. DealCloud. It is built to model diligence, IC preparation, fundraising, and exits the way your firm runs them, with role-based permissions and ethical walls for regulated work, and the same platform serves investment banking, legal, and advisory practices.
Your team is large relative to your fund. Carta's AUM-based model means adding operating partners, advisors, and analysts costs nothing extra, which is the point of Valodzin's post. A small team managing a large fund may find per-user pricing cheaper. The only way to know is to get a Carta quote at your AUM and price the same headcount on Affinity's list.
Fundraising is the bigger job than deal flow. Compare Carta's LP CRM (if you are on Carta) with DealCloud's fundraising and IR workflows, and add Juniper Square, which builds its CRM specifically for investor relations. Our DealCloud alternatives guide covers Juniper Square in more detail.
Switching from DealCloud to Carta CRM
Most firms that ask about this are Carta fund administration customers who want deal and LP data next to the fund data. Before you move, work through these five things.
What Intapp configured for you. DealCloud runs on a flexible data model shaped to each firm, so list your custom objects, stage gates, approval workflows, and standing reports, and check how each maps to Carta's pipelines.
Activity capture on real mailboxes. DealCloud captures from Outlook. Carta's Deal CRM syncs email and calendar, and LP CRM connects to Exchange and Gmail natively. Test both on a few partners' inboxes, not a demo account.
Permissions and compliance. If you rely on DealCloud's ethical walls, role-based permissions, or audit trails, ask Carta to show how a restricted deal is permissioned in Deal CRM.
Data feeds. DealCloud integrates Preqin, PitchBook, and FactSet. Carta describes LLM and third-party API enrichment, so ask which providers it uses and whether your existing subscriptions carry over.
Price. You move from a DealCloud quote to an AUM-based Carta quote with unlimited users. Get both in writing for the same scope.
Switching from Affinity to Carta CRM
The reasons to move are the same: fund data next to deal data, and pricing that stops counting seats. The reasons to hesitate are specific to Affinity. Relationship scoring and warm paths are the core of Affinity, while Carta offers relationship maps and a proximity score, so compare both on your own network before you decide. Affinity's Scale plan also includes AI Chat, Notetaker, its Ascend agents, and an MCP server; Carta offers an AI agent and the option to connect a third-party one. Export your lists, opportunities, and notes, decide which become Carta pipelines, and run both on the same live deals for a few weeks before you cancel.
Other names on the same shortlist
These were last checked on October 27, 2026. 4Degrees is an AI-powered CRM for private market deals with relationship strength mapping; it quotes per user per month on request. Salesforce Financial Services Cloud lists $325, $500, and $700 per user per month on annual billing, and a fund builds its deal and LP workflows on top. Juniper Square is the investor relations specialist. General CRMs such as Attio and HubSpot can run a deal pipeline you build yourself, without fund metrics. For the wider field, see our Affinity vs DealCloud comparison, the Affinity alternatives guide, and the private equity CRM shortlist.
Where Ahoy fits, and where it does not
Ahoy is not a fund CRM, so it does not belong on this shortlist for the fund's own deal flow or LP book. It has no LP management, no fund metrics, and no relationship scoring across a firm.
Where it does fit is one level down. Portfolio companies need a revenue CRM their sales teams will actually keep current, and Ahoy fills itself from each seller's email, calls, and meetings, with agents preparing follow-ups for approval. Sending email and deleting records always wait for a person. Across several companies, the multi-entity CRM gives the operating team one view of every portfolio pipeline. Starter is $79 per seat per month billed annually ($99 billed monthly) and Pro is $165, with AI included in the seat; see the pricing page.
Frequently asked questions
What makes Carta CRM different from Affinity and DealCloud?
Two things: where it lives and how it is priced. Carta CRM came from Carta's acquisition of ListAlpha in March 2026 and sits inside Carta's ERP for private capital, so LP records can show TVPI, DPI, IRR, and carry from the fund administration a firm already runs on Carta. Carta prices it by assets under management, with unlimited users and AI included. Affinity is a standalone CRM built around relationship scoring, with published prices per user per year. DealCloud is a platform Intapp configures to each firm's process, quoted through sales.
Carta vs DealCloud for private equity: which fits better?
If your fund administration runs on Carta, Carta CRM gives you something DealCloud cannot: deal and LP records in the same system as the fund data. If it does not, DealCloud is the stronger fit for a firm that wants its own process configured into the CRM, with workflows for diligence, IC preparation, fundraising, and exits, plus ethical walls and audit trails for regulated work. Carta is the lighter rollout; it says onboarding typically takes under three weeks.
Affinity vs Carta CRM for private equity deal teams: what is the difference?
Affinity is built around relationship intelligence: it scores relationship strength across the firm's email and calendar history and shows the warmest path to any contact, and it publishes its prices at $2,000, $2,300, and $2,700 per user per year. Carta Deal CRM syncs email and calendar, maps relationships, adds a proximity score in its enrichment, and runs pipelines in a spreadsheet-style workspace. Its pricing is based on AUM rather than seats, so every partner, operating partner, and analyst can have access at no extra cost.
Which is the best LP CRM for fundraising: Affinity, DealCloud, or Carta?
For a firm whose fund administration runs on Carta, Carta's LP CRM, because LP records carry commitments, capital calls, and fund metrics from Carta's own data. It is sold as part of a Carta Fund Administration package. DealCloud manages LP relationships, fundraising pipelines, and capital activity in the same configured system as deal flow. Affinity is deal pipeline first; it can track LPs alongside deals, without fund accounting data. Juniper Square, which builds its CRM specifically for investor relations, is the other name worth a demo if fundraising is the bigger job.
How much does Carta CRM cost?
Carta does not publish a price. Its September 15, 2026 blog post says Carta CRM is priced by assets under management, with unlimited users and AI included, and both Deal CRM and LP CRM go through a demo. For comparison, Affinity lists $2,000 to $2,700 per user per year as of October 30, 2026, and Intapp does not publish DealCloud pricing.
Can you buy Carta CRM without Carta fund administration?
Deal CRM, yes: Carta says it can be purchased on its own. LP CRM, according to Carta's FAQ, is available as part of a Fund Administration package. The fund metrics on LP records are the main reason to choose Carta over Affinity or DealCloud, so a firm that does not run fund administration on Carta should weigh the three on deal flow alone.
What should you check before switching from DealCloud to Carta CRM?
Start with what Intapp configured for you: custom objects, stage gates, approval workflows, and reports that may not map one to one. Then test activity capture on real mailboxes, ask Carta to show how restricted deals are permissioned if you rely on DealCloud's ethical walls, and confirm which data providers Carta's enrichment uses if you depend on Preqin, PitchBook, or FactSet feeds. Finally, compare a quote at your AUM against what you pay Intapp today.
How do you move from Affinity to Carta CRM?
Export your lists, opportunities, and notes from Affinity, and decide what becomes a Carta pipeline. The questions to settle before you sign are relationship intelligence, since scoring and warm paths are the core of Affinity, and AI, since Affinity's Scale plan includes AI Chat, Notetaker, its Ascend agents, and an MCP server. Carta offers relationship maps, an AI agent, and the option to connect a third-party agent. Run both on the same deals for a few weeks before you cancel.
Is Ahoy an alternative to Carta CRM?
No, and we would rather say so. Ahoy is a general AI-native CRM. It has no LP management, no fund metrics, and no relationship scoring across a firm. Its place in a private equity stack is the revenue CRM inside the portfolio companies, or the pipeline of a small team that wants email and meetings captured without a fund platform.
