At Ahoy, we're building the first AI-native CRM from the ground up—one that transforms static data into intelligent, actionable insights. As our Founding Design Engineer, you'll help define how millions of users interact with the future of customer relationship management.
The Role
As our Founding Design Engineer, you'll own the entire user experience of our AI-native CRM. You're not just implementing designs—you're architecting the intersection of beautiful interfaces and intelligent functionality that makes complex customer data feel intuitive and actionable.
You'll work directly with founders and customers to understand pain points, prototype solutions rapidly, and build polished experiences that delight users while handling the complexity of AI-powered workflows underneath.
Core Responsibilities
Product Design & UX
- Design and prototype user flows for complex AI workflows (agent orchestration, automated insights, etc.)
- Create intuitive interfaces that make enterprise-grade CRM functionality accessible to all users
- Conduct user research and usability testing to validate design decisions
- Establish and maintain our design system from first principles
Frontend Development
- Build responsive, performant React applications with TypeScript
- Implement real-time interfaces for AI agent interactions and live data updates
- Optimize for performance across desktop and mobile platforms
- Integrate with backend APIs and manage complex application state
Product Strategy
- Collaborate directly with customers to understand workflow requirements
- Transform user feedback into actionable design and development priorities
- Balance user needs with technical constraints and business objectives
- Help define product roadmap based on user research and market insights
Technical Requirements
Essential Skills
- 5+ years of frontend development experience with modern frameworks
- Expert-level proficiency in React, TypeScript, and modern CSS
- Strong design skills with proficiency in Figma or similar tools
- Experience building design systems and component libraries
- Understanding of responsive design and cross-browser compatibility
- Knowledge of state management (Redux, Zustand, or similar)
Design Experience
- Portfolio demonstrating strong visual design and UX thinking
- Experience designing for complex B2B applications or data-heavy interfaces
- Understanding of user research methodologies and usability testing
- Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design
Bonus Skills
- Experience with AI/ML interfaces or conversational UI patterns
- Backend development skills (Node.js, Python) for rapid prototyping
- Mobile development experience (React Native)
- Animation and micro-interaction expertise (Framer Motion, Lottie)
- Previous experience at high-growth B2B SaaS companies
- Background in CRM, sales tools, or customer data platforms
